Hello, My 2006 Grand Cherokee Laredo 3.7 starts fine when the engine is cold (e.g., after night or a working day). However, it won't start when the engine is hot (for example, if I left it sitting on a parking lot while going into a store and got back 15 minutes later). These do have some valvetrain concerns. I have pulled my share of 3.7l and 4.7l heads for valves that arent sealing properly. Typically this is what causes a low rpm misfire. The leak is slow enough that as the engine speeds up it builds enough compression to fire but at low rpms it bleeds 3.8L Life Expectancy. Generally, the life expectancy of a 3.8L Jeep engine can range between 150K to 200K, depending on how you use your Jeep. I got done and started driving with it still on eco and it was turning on and off. I had it at the dealer to get a new key and asked him what it was.. "yeah that's the MDS".. ok? So I proceeded to ask him how it works.. "yeah, it drops the cylinders down to 3 instead of 6".... OK?? NOWHERE in ANY of my jeep information including the build sheet does it talk about MDS.. Gdzie podział się klasyczny wygląd Cherokee budowanego jeszcze na bazie Wagonera? Gdzie charakterystyczne kanty z pierwszych lat produkcji, gdzie to uroczo toporne, niemal ciosane siekierą nadwozie? Na szczęście poprzednik dawał sobie radę w trudnym terenie i jeśli ktoś chciał poszaleć na błotnistych bezdrożach, nie mógł przejść obojętnie obok Jeepa Cherokee. W nowym modelu Jeep wraca do korzeni. Auto znów wygląda jak wyjęte spod ekierki. Maska jest równa jak stół, okna do bólu kwadratowe, a całość muskularnej sylwetki podkreślają wypukłe nadkola o ostrych kształtach. Problem w tym, że Cherokee to już bardziej SUV niż terenówka z krwi i kości. Dlaczego? Auto ma płytę podłogową i wiele elementów zawieszenia i nadwozia takich jak Dodge Nitro. Efekt? Niemal kompaktowe wymiary. Przy zwiększonym o cztery centymetry rozstawie osi (269,5 cm) Jeep jest minimalnie krótszy od swojego poprzednika i nieco od niego wyższy. Ma też sporo mniejszy bagażnik. Inżynierowie postanowili, że auto będzie mniej terenowe. Niestety. Prześwit skurczył się o 3 cm. Kąty rampowe, zejścia i wejścia też zmalały. Czy to ważne? Tak, i to bardzo. Przekonaliśmy się o tym na prezentacji, kilkakroć szorując "brzuchem" po piaskach Sahary. Niski prześwit to spora wada auta mieniącego się terenowym. Konstruktorzy Cherokee wspólnie z marketingowcami doszli jednak do wniosku, że lepiej pozycjonować go jako SUV-a. A w tej kategorii prześwit nie jest aż tak istotny. W końcu auto zawsze można "podliftować", zmieniając sprężyny, amortyzatory i kilka innych drobiazgów, a na asfalt 19 cm luzu to aż nadto. Ba, daje to nawet niebagatelną korzyść. Cherokee lepiej prowadzi się na twardym. Tym samym wyeliminowano chyba największą jego bolączkę. Choć Jeep wciąż nie jest mistrzem asfaltów, to jednak usztywnione zawieszenie (podwójne wahacze z przodu i sztywna oś z tyłu) lepiej trzymają auto na zakrętach. Wysoko zamontowane fotele zapewniają dodatkowo lepszą niż w osobówkach widoczność. Ale skoro auto ma być bardziej SUV-em, to dlaczego zafundowano mu tak zaawansowany układ napędowy? Udoskonalonej wersji napędu Selec-Trac II nie spotkamy w Nitro. Ma ją większy Grand Cheronee. Podobnie jak u większego brata w normalnych warunkach 42 proc. momentu wędruje na przednią oś. W razie kłopotów zawsze można zdać się na tryb 4WD Low rozdzielający moment (zwielokrotniony reduktorem) na obie osie po równo. I wszystko byłoby cudownie, gdyby nie te przeklęte 18 cm. Pędząc 80 km/h po bezkresnych piaskach pustyni, dokładnie po tych samych odcinkach, na których nie odbył się tegoroczny Rajd Dakar, co chwilę do kabiny dochodził dźwięk piasku ocierającego o osłonę silnika. Zachęcani przez organizatorów do jeszcze szybszej jazdy modliliśmy się, by nie trafić na kamień. A w wersji CRD (tylko taka wersja dostępna będzie w Polsce) gaz wciska się chętnie. Turbodoładowany diesel jest o 14 KM mocniejszy od poprzednika. Większy o 10 Nm jest także moment obrotowy, z którym całkiem nieźle radzi sobie sześciobiegowa manualna skrzynia, ta sama co w poprzedniej wersji Cherokee. Jak na prawdziwe amerykańskie auto przystało, nie mogło zabraknąć także automatu. Choć wymaga dopłaty, cieszy się sporym powodzeniem wśród kierowców. Nie tylko tych leniwych. Spod maski, szczególnie na postoju, do uszu dochodzi charakterystyczny klekot diesla. A przecież to silnik z układem Common Rail, a nie tradycyjnymi pompowtryskiwaczami. Na szczęście kabina dobrze izoluje od irytującego hałasu. A skoro przy kabinie jesteśmy, też bardziej trąci SUV-em niż terenówką. Zrobiło się obszerniej i bardziej elegancko. Na życzenie można dokupić wersję ze skórzaną tapicerką, systemem My- Gig i ośmiokanałowym zestawem audio o mocy 368 Watt. Komu mało, może zamówić wielki otwierany dach. Ale nie taki szklany, tylko z materiału, i to o powierzchni niemal całego dachu nowego Jeepa Cherokee. Tylko gdzie na Boga podziała się strachłapka? Na każdej hopce ręka wędrowała nad głowę, trafiając w próżnię. No tak, można się chwycić, ale rączki zamontowanej przed pasażerem. A to niezbyt wygodne podczas terenowej jazdy. Jeep Cherokee wrócił na właściwą drogę, zrywając z toporną stylistyką swoich poprzedników. Nie wiadomo tylko, czy więcej czerpie z Dodge'a Nitro czy z poprzednika. Wyposażony równie dobrze jak niejeden samochód kompaktowy zapewnia całkiem przyzwoity komfort jazdy, a przy tym spore możliwości terenowe dzięki napędowi Selec-Trac II. Na rynku amerykańskim Cheronee vel. Liberty dostępny będzie też z benzynowym silnikiem V6 o mocy 214 koni. Średnie spalanie rzędu 13 l/100 km nie przysporzyłoby mu w Polsce klientów, zwłaszcza mających znacznie oszczędniejszą (nieco ponad 9 l/100 km), wysokoprężną alternatywę.
